What To Expect

New to Jackson First?

Welcome!
At Jackson First UMC, you are part of the family. ALL are welcome here. Whether you are young or old, single, married, single again, with or without children, we invite you to experience the love of God and grow in the kind of faith that will make a difference in your life!

Jackson First UMC is downtown at 275 West Michigan Avenue between Jackson and Blackstone, across from the Public Library.  Our Main Entrance and Welcome Center are on the south side (rear of the building) off Cortland Ave.  All persons entering the building during COVID-19 restrictions must enter this way for health screening.  Deliveries are possible through the front doors on Michigan Avenue during the week.  Please ring the bell.

On Sunday morning there is ample free parking with designated handicapped spaces.  You may park in front of the church on Michigan Avenue or in our West lot on the corner of Michigan & Blackstone.  Our South lot is closest to the Welcome Center or you may use the American Title lot across the street (off Cortland).  The American Title lot is not available on weekdays.

Sunday morning worship is at 10:30 am and might best be described as “fresh” traditional.  Our worship features a mixed style of informal/formal dress, traditional/blended liturgy and music, people of all ages/all walks of life in a beautiful setting.

Here at Jackson First, we want to meet the needs of your family!  If you prefer to keep your children with you during worship, ask an usher for an activity bag to keep young minds and hands busy as they learn and grow in the faith.  We also offer qualified, trained Child Care for ages 0-4 in age-appropriate rooms right off the Sanctuary during Sunday School (begins at 9:15) and worship.  Youth Group (“Youts”) meets for Bible Study, dinner, fellowship and fun beginning at 5:00 pm Sunday evenings.  See education: Children’s and Youth sections for more details

Relax. You won’t be asked to stand to be recognized or to wear a nametag.  We would appreciate your providing us with your name and address on a Connect Card (included in your bulletin).  We like to follow up with our guests to thank them for coming. Guests are also invited to join us in Fellowship Hall for Hospitality time after worship.  We hope you’ll stop in to receive a warm welcome, a bite to eat, and a cup of coffee or tea.

The ministries of Jackson First UMC are financially supported by voluntary contributions of its members and friends. We do not expect a contribution from our guests.
