We Are Called: Living as Disciples Who Invite Others In
There’s a phrase Jesus said that still echoes through time: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19)
For many of us, that verse sounds like a command meant for pastors, missionaries, or those who seem to have a special kind of boldness — the ones who easily strike up deep spiritual conversations with strangers or pray aloud without hesitation. But the truth is, the call to be a disciple — and to make disciples — was never meant for a select few. It’s a calling for all of us who follow Jesus.
Discipleship isn’t a title; it’s a lifestyle.
It’s how we live, how we love, and how we invite others to experience the same grace that’s changed us.
Being a Disciple Starts With Surrender
To be a disciple of Christ means learning from Him daily — not just in church or Bible study, but in the ordinary rhythms of life. It’s asking, “How can I reflect Jesus here?” — at work, in traffic, in our parenting, in how we treat the cashier at the grocery store.
We don’t have to have all the answers. We just need to be willing.
Discipleship begins with surrender: letting Christ shape our character, soften our hearts, and stretch our comfort zones.
Invitation Is at the Heart of the Gospel
When Jesus called His first disciples, He simply said, “Come, follow Me.” That’s an invitation — not an obligation.
And that’s what we’re meant to extend to others: an open door.
An invitation to walk alongside us, to see faith lived out, to experience the peace and purpose that only Jesus offers.
Being invitational doesn’t always mean handing out tracts or hosting a Bible study (though those are good things!). It might look like:
- Listening to someone’s story without judgment.
- Offering to pray when someone shares a burden.
- Living with such genuine joy and peace that others can’t help but wonder where it comes from.
Invitational living means saying, “You belong here.”
Before people believe, before they understand — they need to feel welcome.
The Power of Everyday Faithfulness
You may never stand on a stage or preach a sermon, but your life preaches every single day.
How you respond to disappointment, how you love your family, how you forgive — those moments speak louder than words.
Your presence can be the spark that points someone to Jesus.
Your kindness might be the moment someone starts to believe that God’s love is real.
The Call Is For You
You don’t need a microphone.
You don’t need a seminary degree.
You just need a heart that says, “Here I am, Lord. Use me.”
Because being a disciple isn’t about perfection — it’s about participation.
It’s about showing up, loving well, and inviting others to meet the One who changed everything for you.
So this week, may you see yourself as more than a believer.
You are a disciple — a carrier of light, love, and invitation.
And the world is waiting for the hope you carry.
