Music Ministry
Ensembles
The Music Ministry of the First United Methodist Church has been and continues to be a vibrant ministry here in the heart of Jackson. While facing challenges due to the pandemic, we have met those challenges and continue to be a strong ministry in the worship life of the First United Methodist Church.
Questions on any of our music offerings? Please contact Tim Meunier, Director of Music Ministries.
CHANCEL CHOIR - This adult choir continues to be a strong music fellowship. The Chancel Choir is a non-auditioned choir that rehearses weekly on Wednesdays at 7pm. The Chancel Choir has been honored to have been invited in recent years to sing at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in NY city. Those concerts were an example of what “everyday, (non-musician) people” can do when they link their voices together in the praise of God. After a year off due to the pandemic, the choir is back sharing music for our worship of God! All are welcome to add their voices with ours.
FELLOWSHIP CHOIR – This is the prefect ensemble for those who are short on time but still want to lift their voice in a choral ensemble in the praise of God. Fellowship Choir rehearses just once a month and sings on the first Sunday of the month… with Chancel Choir. Their rehearsal is on the Wednesday before the first Sunday of the month. They will rehearse with Chancel Choir at the first half of the Wednesday evening 7:00 rehearsal. This is a great musical option for those who can’t commit to weekly rehearsals or for those who want to “test the waters” into our Music Ministry. Snow-birds welcome!
BELLE CANTO – This select women’s ensemble has been making music together since 2006. Belle Canto sings in worship once a month. This nine-voice ensemble, with their close harmonies, have been a wonderful addition to our music ministry.
JOURNEYMEN – A “journeymen” is a skilled craftsman who works under the direction of the “Master Craftsman.” God is the “master craftsman.” This new select men’s vocal ensemble is one of the only good things that came out of the pandemic. This eight-voice ensemble started in the Fall of 2020 and are a joy to hear. They share their music in worship once a month.
CARILLON RINGERS – This is our handbell/handchime ensemble. Presently, this group has nine ringers with room at the table for more. Some basic music reading ability is a must. This three-octave ensemble plays in worship about every six weeks and for holiday concerts and services.
INSTRUMENTAL - There are always opportunities throughout the year for instrumentalists to share their music with us in worship.
Our church is uniquely fortunate to have such skilled organists and pianist who share their skills with us weekly. Our Martin Ott, 4 manual Pipe organ was installed in 2002.

“To Music”
“How many of us ever stop to thing of music as a wondrous link with God,
taking sometimes the place of prayer when words have failed us ‘neath the weight of care?
Music that knows no country, race or creed, but give to each according to their need.”
