Children's Music Director

Jackie Livesay

First UMC Jackson offers an outstanding music program with options for all ages and abilities. For adults, it's an opportunity to learn new music, be a part of a choir family and to gain new experiences while offering music in worship, and to the community in fellowship and Christian love. Youth have the opportunity to create great relationships and express their spiritual nature while improving their musical ability and increasing their participation in the worship experience. New members are always welcome at anytime of the year. Children can learn the fundementals of music while making friends and learning to be an integral part of the worship experience. For more information about any of our music programs please contact Timothy Meunier, Director of Music Ministries at 517-787-6460.

Musical Options for Adults

Chancel Choir:  (High School and on)  Rehearsals are each Wednesday from 7:00 – 8:30pm. The Chancel Choir sings at the 11:00am worship service each Sunday from September – June. Are you a snowbird and can’t commit to the whole year?  No problem, join us for a season.

Fellowship Choir:  This choir is a great alternative for those in high school and on who can’t commit to weekly rehearsals. They sing on the first Sunday of the month only (with a few exceptions). The one rehearsal of the month is on the Thursday before the first Sunday of the month.

Instrumental:  We are fortunate as a church to have some wonderful instrumental ensembles who present music for our worship throughout the year. Space is limited. Please contact Tim Meunier if you have any questions regarding any of our instrumental groups.

Chimers Handchime Ensemble:  Want to learn how to ring? This would be a great place to do it! This group plays two to three octaves of Malmark Handchimes. We rehearse at 6:00 – 6:45pm each Thursday. This group plays in worship approximately 5 times a year.

Jubilate Ringers: is our advanced ringing ensemble who rehearses each week on Wednesday at 6:00 – 7:00pm in our bell room on the third floor. They play 3 – 4 octaves of Malmark Handbells and present music for worship 6 – 7 times a year.

Brass Ensemble: Nothing defines our more festive services more than with the sounds of the Brass Ensemble.   This group plays for our services of celebration like Thanksgiving and Easter with minimal rehearsal time.

Musical Options for Children

Whatawednesday: This is our Wednesday evenings of fun, fellowship, music, worship and learning. All of our children's choir rehearsals take place on this night. What a wonderful opportunity for children to make music through faith-based music instruction. Our Director of Children’s music is Jackie Livesay, who offers three music experiences for your children. Please consider giving your child the gift of music.

You don’t have to be involved in any of our choral groups or other Wednesday night offerings to join us   for our Whatawednesday Supper The wonderful meals prepared in the church kitchen are only $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for kids. What a wonderful/easy meal option for the busy family or for those who’d just prefer to leave the cooking to someone else. Come, join us at 5:15pm in Fellowship Hall for this time of fellowship.

We describe our church as a place where “Music and Worship Combine.”  Come, combine your voice with ours as we enjoy the many opportunities for fellowship, worship and the making of beautiful music.
