Music Ministries

First UMC Jackson offers an outstanding music program with options for all ages and abilities. For adults, it's an opportunity to learn new music, be a part of a choir family and to gain new experiences while offering music in worship, and to the community in fellowship and Christian love. Youth have the opportunity to create great relationships and express their spiritual nature while improving their musical ability and increasing their participation in the worship experience. Many members of our youth choir have gone on to become leaders in the church. Children can learn the fundementals of music while making friends and learning to be an integral part of the worship experience. For more information about any of our music programs please contact Timothy Meunier, Director of Music Ministries at 517-787-6460.

Chancel Choir

This adult choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30pm. They sing each week at the 11:00am service. This is a wonderful fellowship of singers within our church. While its main focus is on worship, they've participated in a number of community performances throughout the years, including performances with the Jackson Symphony, the Jackson Chorale, and most recently, at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City.

They present special music on festive celebrations such as Thanksgiving Sunday, Christmas and during Holy Week. At times, they team with other area choirs to present concerts in our sanctuary during the holiday season. In December they join with the other choirs that make up our music program to present music for the annual Christmas Collage Concert.

Want to know more? We invite you to come sit in on one of their rehearsals. Please contact Timothy Meunier, 517-787-6460, for more information. I hope that you'll join us!

Fellowship Choir

This choir is for adults and sings the first Sunday of the month and rehearses from 7:00 - 8:15pm on the Thursday prior to that. They sing two to three part anthems at the 9:00am service each month during the academic year. This group also presents music for special services and concerts throughout the year, such as our annual Christmas Collage Concert in December and at Easter. After the monthly rehearsals the Fellowship Choir gathers together for (what else?) a time of fellowship. This is a great choir for those who haven't sung in a choir or are "rusty." It's also a great choir for those who are just short on time. Rehearsals are only once a month, with a few exceptions. If you would enjoy being part of a strong, loving fellowship, come sit in on a rehearsal. You'll enjoy it!

2nd Sunday Youth Choir

This choir is for youth grades 7 - 12. They rehearse each 2nd Sunday morning at 10:00am and sing that same day at the 11:00am worship hour throughout the school year. 2nd Sunday Youth Choir joins with the Chancel and Fellowship choirs for festive occasions. It is open to all youth who love to sing and express their faith through music. We invite you to give this youth choir a try. No previous choir experience is necessary. We'll teach you what you need to know. I hope that you'll join us!

Carol Choir

This choir is for upper elementary students, grades 3 through 6, and meets from 6:00 - 7:00pm on Wednesdays. The choristers sing in morning worship approximately seven times during the choir year. In addition, members of the Carol Choir lead the 7:00pm Christmas Eve service, the 6:30pm Ash Wednesday service, and present a complete musical drama. Rehearsals are used for learning songs to be presented in worship, vocal development and instruction in music-reading.

Cherub Choir

This is an early elementary choir and is for students in grades 1 through 3. The choir meets from 4:45 - 5:30pm every Wednesday.  Singers participate in morning worship approximately seven times during the year. The choir also participates in the 7:00pm Christmas Eve service and the annual musical drama. Rehearsals are used for teaching songs to be used in worship, vocal development, and instructional games and activities.

Angel Choir

This is our youngest choir for three-year-olds through kindergarteners. Activities are play-based and designed for developmentally appropriate musical and theological instruction. The choir sings for morning worship the Sunday before Christmas, at the 7:00pm Christmas Eve service, for Easter, and for Mother's Day.

Jubilate Ringers

(Adults) This three to four octave bell choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 - 7:00pm. (This group is on hiatus in the summer and resumes in the fall.) This group plays throughout the year for worship, special events and most holidays. Some musical background is required. For more information contact Timothy Munier, 517-787-6460.

Chimers Handchime Ensemble

(Youth/Adult) This two octave handchime ensemble rehearses each Thursday evening at 6:10pm for 45 minutes. (This group is on hiatus in the summer and resumes in the fall.) This small ensemble of 7 - 11 ringers is a great way for the new ringer to learn the basics of bell ringing. We'd love to have you ring with us. If we run out of room in this bell group we'll form a new one for you! Private ringing lessons are available to anyone who would like to explore the possibilities of becoming a Chimer. Please call Timothy Meunier, 517-787-6460, for more information.
